ABOUT THE DLC
This content requires the base game.
Time for a Getaway?
New experiences are out there for you to discover – or create! Explore the possibilities of Custom Venues and Getaways. Getaways can last a day or more and be anything from restful to challenging. Schedule activities that’ll help your Sims recharge, and maybe meet new friends. You can even apply rules to your Getaway. For example, Elimination Rules – like skill or relationship gains – will have Sims competing to outlast each other. This’ll be extra fun for Sims with the new Competitive Trait. Build and decorate your unique Custom Venue however you want, decide what kinds of activities are available there, and share it to the Gallery for others to enjoy.
Adventure Starts at Childhood
From camp Getaways to imaginative play: the fun Sims have as kids will set the stage for the rest of their lives. Child Sims can develop new traits by going through Formative Moments, and forge evolving Childhood Sentiments towards Sims they grow up knowing. Customize Modular Playgrounds with slides and activities for a ton of Childhood fun. Kids can challenge each other with games like Hide and Seek or Rock, Paper, Scissors, and even have Imaginary Friends! Choose from four different Imaginary Friend dolls and four different personalities: Goofball, Competitive, Creative, and Evil. These personalities will affect the activities they suggest, so keep those smoke detectors handy!
A Life of Play
The love of play begins during childhood and lasts a lifetime. Sims will have new skills to engage with: Papercraft, Entomology, Diving, and Archery. Make classic crafts like paper planes, catch and raise butterflies, make a splash with new diving boards, and hit the bullseye! These activities are for both kids and grown-ups, as are the Diving Board, Waterslide, and Kayak. Get out there and explore the water! Active Adult Sims will enjoy working out with Spin Bikes and Free Weights, and drinking a refreshing smoothie from the new Blender.
Adventure Around Every Corner
Explore 3 neighborhoods – Wanderwood Wilds, Crystal Valley, and Jellyfish Junction – in the adventurous world of Gibbi Point. There are engaging Sims to meet, quests to uncover, and sights to see including an erupting geyser, a bioluminescent bay, and a lagoon glowing with jellyfish (the locals love jellyfish). Attend festivals on the boardwalk, and start a career as a Park Worker that can lead to working as a Park Ranger or a Camp Counselor. You might even spot the mysterious Plumbird! Each of Gibbi Point’s neighborhoods has its own Getaway – Camp Gibbi Gibbi, Revive & Thrive, and Love Highland – that Sims can jump right into.

Okay, for the game review. I'm not a fan of anything that makes me uptight. Most games are competitive and created a lot of tension. If you want a game that just makes you smile, this is it. You can make it tense, if you want. Like drowning your sims or setting them on fire. Or sometimes they get murdolated by using poor quality things in their homes. You can create evil sims if that's your thing. But you can turn off death in your options (my gig) and play in such a way as to avoid harming your little faux peeps. In this game you can create sim-peeps with all kinds of body shapes, facial features, hairstyles, and clothing from dweeb to super-cool, and even period and costumes styles. You can also choose their personality traits and preferences.
My favorite part of playing Sims 4 is building. In this regard, expansion packs are really important because it's easy to get bored using the same stuff over and over. I'm not a huge fan of every pack, but I buy all the major ones (on LOADED) anyway because even if I don't go for the theme, there are lots of new items I can use in creating my sims and building.
The latest expansion pack, Adventure Awaits, which I just purchased on LOADED (at a HUGE discount - and no I don't work for LOADED or get any money or perks from them) is all about the outdoors which is amazing because there's no place I'd rather be than out in nature.
Speaking of me, I'm an old lady (will be 70 in December) and was disabled during surgery 25 years ago. I no longer parkour - okay stretching my imagination a bit but I was not afraid to climb like a monkey before my nerve was cut. Now I wobble very carefully when hiking and don't get out in nature they way I used to. So the Adventure Awaits expansion is great for me as were previous outdoorsy expansions.
The Pros
Woo hoo, new neighborhood! Of course we like our "worlds" in Sims 4, and like anything, something new is always exciting. Finally Maxis created a "normal" diving board. Previous diving platforms were, well, unrealistic to say the least. Unless you dive from a lifeguard stand because that's what they look like. In this expansion pack we now have diving boards that look like diving boards. There's also backyard play equipment for your little sim monsters that look like what I see around my neighborhood. Lots of fun if you're into sim kids. Can you say canoeing? I've never played previous versions of The Sims (1,2,3) so Idk if they had water sports. But with the advent of Island Adventure in Sims 4 your sims can sail and swim in the ocean, go snorkeling, and ride water toys. In Adventure awaits, now they can go kayaking on a lake. Wanderwood Hills has geysers to stare at. There's a lot to explore and a lot to do. I'm just getting started. There are quite a few lots to build on. That's a biggo deal for me since building is my fave thing to do in Sims. Waterfalls! Rivers! And a Retreat center. All yippie yahoo in my tome of greats.
The Cons
When I had a sim visit the geysers, there was no activity. Not sure what that's all about. The game trailer shows it blowing so apparently it must happen at certain intervals. Initial install failed but clearing the cache fixed the problem (l also ran game repair jic.)
