ABOUT THE GAME
Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.
From the creators of Solasta: Crown of the Magister comes another intriguing tactical RPG faithful to the world's most popular TTRPG's ruleset.
Uncover the lands of Neokos
Create and guide your party of 4 adventurers as they head to the faraway continent of Neokos in a quest driven by their family legacy. In the face of the threat by the ancient and enigmatic Shadwyn, what choices will you make to push back the impending tide of corruption?
Solasta II is a grand sequel to Solasta: Crown of the Magister, a much beloved Tactical RPG known for its faithfulness to the Tabletop experience. Decades after defeating the Sorak menace, a new flegdling party of heroes travels to distant lands in search for redemption.
JUst like on Tabletop
Solasta II remains true to its promise to deliver gameplay based on the world's most popular TTRPG. Prepare your spells, land that sneak attack, smite this monster - bathe in the familiarity of your Tabletop experience.
But that's not all Solasta II will have to offer. This new opus will also allow you to freely roam the lands of Neokos, to explore and uncover the map as you will. Whether you stick to familiar roads, or head off into the wilderness... The choice is yours. Just be careful - because as we've always said...
You make the choices, dice decide your destiny.

I would first like to point out that the... This was my review, originally uploaded to steam:
I would first like to point out that the negativity you'll see amongst the reviews is directed at the character creator for the most part. Those who have overtly criticized the game never wished to play the game, simply to refund it for whatever joy they aspire to gain from it. I'll ignore spoilers for my short review.
This game plays like a mix of xcom and BG3, which may not be for everyone. A lot of the encounters and fights are mostly predetermined through the linear story, which does have branching paths, but lacks the emphasis of tackling quests in any order you may wish. Of course, there are side quests, which may tie into the main campaign, but it lacks that "open world" feeling like BG3.
The writing's pose and the overall narrative flows well, clearly a step up from their first game. All characters in your family may have an odd quirk about them, but for the most part the tropes are limited in scope. The NPCs can have their likeabilities, and some may make you hate them for their smugness, which I found nice. You'll often pick up snippets of lore dumps present in the texts littered around the world, which delve more into the events in the world, as well as the stakes of what this game will entail. There are no negative aspects in regards to their handling of the narrative.
As for performance, the game is built in UE5, which suffers from the lumen issues plaguing every single UE5 game with ray tracing. You'll encounter the usual artifacting when it comes to light diffusing off surfaces, but that is a known bug present in nearly all Unreal Engine versions since Epic Games does not commit to resolving one single version of their lumen system. There are some moments in the game where slowdowns do occur, generally rare and it seems to be an issue when there's heavy light diffusion present. Enabling DLSS will remove these issues. However, for those with AMD, or Intel Arc, you may be prone to more of these events occuring as lumen will perform worse on those cards.
Now, as for animations and the cinematics, this game feels cinematic at times, whilst suffering from poorly animated encounters in others. It is clear what is still being worked on, as some interactions are not lip-synced yet, nor have the proper animations present. I believe those scenes will get revised as the game progresses during its early access period, but it is prevalent throughout the entire game.
The gameplay in this release is clearly the most refined portion of the game, as everything feels snappy and weighty in your actions and movement. Whether it be the verticality of climbing ledges, fending off attackers from high ground, or formations between your squad and theirs, it all flows smoothly. A lot of functionality in things like scribing and crafting is still missing. If you are buying this for the gameplay, it is very polished, but there's a limited pool of classes, ancestries, and subclasses present. You'll find items regularly for a "druid", but cannot utilize any such item for the foreseeable future.
Finally, for the main source of negativity, there's the character creator. I myself haven't had any issues with blending the faces to achieve a masculine look, as I have my dwarf looking like Henry Cavill, and my wizard looking like Lyonel Baratheon from AKOTSK. However, I can see where people go wrong with the diffusion of the facial models. None of them are labelled as female, nor male, and are all knit together as it will work, and it doesn't for the average person. Star Citizen had a similar issue when they introduced their facial blending system, and they resolved it by grouping the male faces with the male ones. I believe this system is confusing for nearly all players that never encountered facial blending before, which hopefully gets resolved in this early access.
Overall, this is an Early Access Game, and it is clearly at least a couple of years away from the mainline release. There is plenty of fun to be had with the game currently, but don't go in expecting a finished release, and it is not a game with a massive $200 million cash check injected into the game like Larian got from WoTC. It is by far one of the better games I've played in the cRPG space, with a ton of potential.
The Pros
- Narrative - Gameplay - Customization - Fully voiced - Graphics
The Cons
- Animations (currently lacking) - Bugs - Lack of certain mechanics, like crafting and scribing - Demanding to run
